Our story
The Yampa valley OspreyCam was born from a walk Peter took, followed shortly by a conversation between Peter and Barry out back of Tobys Tavern on Walton pond. The jist of the discussion was 'man we sure would like to have an osprey nest here so we can watch them'. And off it went. Barry spear-headed the 'let's really do this' research on a pole and nest design. The property ownwe Curt W became a quick friend of the ospreys and donated the telephone pole, a hole in the ground and the equipment to erect it.
By the Spring of 2021 the nest platform was build with help of another key local character Jeff N. We were fortunate to have osperys condo-shopping that summer that moved right in (everyone locally knows housing is at a premium here, and have to jump on opportunities. Peter the resident techno-nerd got obsessed with the idea of a nest camera on this remote platform and in 2022 we had a great summer of watching (and 'learning lessons 'bout baby osprey projectile pooping skills). Each season since we have tried to improve the viewing setup and spread access to the live feed. In 2024 we are debuting multiple camera angles and custom website - which you have found!
